When a hotel concierge in possession of a bag stolen from Phryne's house is killed, Jack heads an investigation that leads to a surprising suspect.
Victim: Frank McNabb
Case: Jack contacted Phryne because she was a person of interest in a murder case. She chose to investigate.
Murderer: Eugene Fisher
Outcome: Eugene was unconscious and under police guard in a hospital.
It is night time at the Grand Hotel. Frank McNabb runs onto the roof. He pulls a bundle of money from a satchel and tosses it down a laundry chute. In the basement, Enid finds the money. Back on the roof, Eugene walks slowly toward McNabb, brandishing a knife. He demands "the money" then pushes McNabb off the roof.
Phryne: I'm sorry, Jack. I don't think I can bring myself to assist you with this case after all.
Phryne: I don't believe you.
Henry: shouting Well things must be dire when a daughter can't believe her own father!
Phryne: shouting back Things are dire!
Unusually for this show, the cold open of this episode clearly shows the murderer's face.
